Interview: Wren

Today we’re joined by Wren. Wren is a phenomenal fanartist who specializes in fanfiction and drawing characters. They currently write mostly in the Person of Interest and Lost fandoms, though they have also dabbled in the Saw fandom. It’s clear they’re a dedicated and passionate artist, as you’ll soon read. My thanks to them for taking the time to participate in this interview.

WORK

Please, tell us about your art.

I like to write and draw, but really I spend most of my time I have writing. A lot of what I do is fanfiction, mostly for the Person of Interest and Lost fandoms (and I sorta used to write for the Saw fandom too). I’m actually trying to write my own original story with some asexual among other queer leads, but it’s on hiatus until I can actually find the time to write it.

For drawing I just draw characters from movies and stuff I’ve seen, usually just in simple poses

What inspires you?

Listening to creepypastas on YouTube

What got you interested in your field?  Have you always wanted to be an artist?

I used to want to draw really nice, but I was pretty bad at it so I took up writing instead.

Do you have any kind of special or unique signature, symbol, or feature you include in your work that you’d be willing to reveal?

I like never draw faces on my characters. Not for any deep reason, I just can’t draw faces.

As for writing probably movie and book references?

What advice would you give young aspiring artists?

You’re gonna feel embarrassed about what you’re writing/drawing sometimes, but let’s be real, with 50 Shades of Gray existing you’ve got nothing to be ashamed of.

ASEXUALITY

Where on the spectrum do you identify?

Aromantic-asexual

Have you encountered any kind of ace prejudice or ignorance in your field?  If so, how do you handle it?

Not so much in the field as just on Tumblr, I try and just block the people I see but ya know

What’s the most common misconception about asexuality that you’ve encountered?

People confusing asexuality for aromanticism is something I’ve seen a couple times

What advice would you give to any asexual individuals out there who might be struggling with their orientation?

Uh for this I would just say think about past experiences and how you felt and/or go through like a list of labels and see which ones you think might fit you

Finally, where can people find out more about your work?

On my AO3 at Chains_and_Pasta: https://archiveofourown.org/users/Chains_and_Pasta

Or on message me on my Tumblr at blazingcitrine (seriously, please do, I have so much to say)
